Terms of Service

markhuman.ai estimates how likely a piece of writing is to have been generated by an AI model, and returns a verdict, an overall probability, and sentence-level highlights. It is a text analysis tool. It is not an academic integrity ruling, a disciplinary finding, a legal opinion, or a certification of authorship.

We develop the service continuously. Features, scoring behaviour, plan limits, and prices can change. We may add, modify, or withdraw parts of the service.

No AI detector is perfect, including this one. Every detector, ours included, produces false positives and false negatives. Human writing is sometimes flagged as machine writing, and machine writing sometimes passes as human — particularly on short passages, on writing by non-native English speakers, on highly formulaic or technical text, and on drafts that have been heavily edited or run through a paraphraser.

A result is a probability estimate, not a fact about the document’s origin. We make no warranty, express or implied, as to the accuracy, reliability, or completeness of any score, verdict, or highlight the service returns.

Treat every report as one piece of evidence to be weighed alongside others. You are solely responsible for any decision you make on the basis of a result. Do not use the service as the sole basis for accusing someone of misconduct, refusing work, penalising a student or employee, or any other consequential decision about a person.

You can scan text without an account. Creating one requires a valid email address and a password of at least eight characters, or a Google account. You are responsible for keeping your credentials secure and for everything done through your account.

One account is for one person. Do not share credentials, resell access, or create accounts to work around plan or free-tier limits. Tell us at support@markhuman.ai if you believe your account has been accessed by someone else.

You agree not to:

• Submit text you have no right to submit, or that you are under a duty of confidence not to disclose.
• Use the service to harass, defame, or make unfounded accusations against any person.
• Attempt to circumvent free-tier limits, plan allowances, authentication, or rate limiting — including by clearing identifiers, automating requests, or distributing them across addresses or accounts.
• Scrape the service, access it other than through the interfaces we provide, or resell or redistribute its output as your own detection product.
• Probe, load-test, reverse engineer, or otherwise interfere with the service or the infrastructure behind it.
• Use the service to break any law that applies to you, or in breach of the rules of an institution you belong to.

The text you submit remains yours. We claim no ownership of it and acquire no licence to it beyond what is needed to run the scan you asked for and return the result to you.

We do not store submitted text, use it for training, or disclose it. See the Privacy Policy for exactly how it is handled. Because we do not retain it, we cannot recover a scan for you after the fact.

The free detector allows 50 scans per browser per day, of up to 2,500 words each, resetting at midnight UTC. A separate, higher ceiling applies per network, so a shared connection such as a school or office may reach a limit before you personally do.

These limits exist to keep the free tier available to everyone and to protect the service from abuse. We may change them, and we may refuse or throttle requests that look automated or abusive.

Paid plans are subscriptions, billed monthly or yearly and charged through Stripe. Prices are shown before you buy. By subscribing you authorise recurring charges to your payment method until you cancel.

Each plan includes a monthly word allowance and a maximum number of words per scan. The allowance resets at the start of each billing cycle. Unused words do not roll over.

You can cancel at any time through the Stripe billing portal linked from your account menu. Cancellation stops future charges; when the subscription ends, your account returns to the free plan and its limits. Card details are handled entirely by Stripe and never reach our servers.

If you are a consumer in the EU or EEA, you have 14 days from the day you subscribe to withdraw from the contract. Because your plan is available the moment you pay, you are asking us to start the service straight away — so if you withdraw within those 14 days we refund what you paid, less a proportionate amount for the part of the billing period you have already had. Email support@markhuman.ai and say you are withdrawing; nothing more formal is needed, and we will process it back to your original payment method.

Outside that window, cancelling stops the next charge but does not refund the period you are in. If something has gone wrong on our side — a failed scan you were billed for, a duplicate charge, an outage that ate your allowance — write to us and we will put it right.

We may change prices. If we do, the new price applies from your next billing cycle, and we will give you notice before it takes effect so you can cancel first.

The service is provided “as is” and “as available”. We do not promise it will be uninterrupted, timely, error-free, or that it will meet your requirements. We perform maintenance, we depend on third-party infrastructure, and outages happen. There is no uptime guarantee attached to any plan.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, and non-infringement.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, revenue, data, goodwill, or opportunity, arising out of your use of the service.

This includes — and we want to be specific, because it is the realistic case — any consequence of relying on a detection result: a grade, a disciplinary outcome, a rejected submission, a terminated contract, or reputational harm following from a score the service returned.

Our total aggregate liability arising out of or relating to the service is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim, or fifty US dollars. Some jurisdictions do not allow certain exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.

You may stop using the service at any time, cancel a subscription from the billing portal, and ask us to delete your account by emailing support@markhuman.ai.

We may suspend or terminate access if you breach these terms, if your use threatens the security or availability of the service for others, or if we are required to by law. Where the circumstances allow it, we will tell you why.

We may update these terms as the product changes. The “last updated” date at the top always reflects the current version. Continuing to use the service after a change means you accept the updated terms.

If any provision of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest stays in effect. Our not enforcing a provision is not a waiver of it. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us regarding the service.

These terms are governed by the law of Estonia, and disputes go to the courts of Estonia. If you are a consumer resident elsewhere in the EU, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory consumer law of the country you live in, and you may bring proceedings there. The European Commission also runs an online dispute resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr, though writing to us directly is faster.
